Sarah Hurwitz was once a speechwriter for the Obama administration. She massaged information for a living, making it ooh and aah and think, This is the life! I don't want to reflect reality, I just want to lie here and feel good forever!
The massaging of her recent messaging starts with the conflation of anti-Zionism and anti-Judaism. Ooh. Aah. Stroke me there! Hurwitz misrepresents New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's position in this way to lump him together with actual Jew haters like Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson, the better to dismiss his criticisms of Israel's actions in Gaza. Aah - no, don't stop! It's just getting good. Hurwitz' brand of "liberalism" apparently supports an Apartheid state that commits war crimes and quite possibly genocide; all who oppose that must be Jew-hating fascists.
Information would show the flaws in that argument, but it's off dreaming about drinking mai tais on a sandy beach somewhere.
Unfortunately for Hurwitz, it's hard to make the argument that Jews (roughly 30 per cent of whom oppose Israel's actions in Gaza) are Jew-hating fascists (the dissonance might wake information from its reverie), so she reaches for the argument that Jews who oppose what Israel is doing in Gaza have been radicalized by the Internet. Radicalized by the internet. Radicalized. By the internet. Is it just me, or is there something self-defeating about somebody railing against videos on social media in a video most people will only see on social media? I would say it was ironic, but I heard somewhere we live in a post-literate society, so anybody reading this would probably think I was talking about a vitamin.
And for the record my bubbe died in Auschwitz, handed to the Nazis by the French police. I don't think she would have been impressed by the nation the European powers created to drive Jews off the continent, and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be down with a Jewish state that committed war crimes. You want to start a bubbes war, bubbelach, let's rumble!

The first rule of hole digging is: stop digging and put down the shovel. The second rule of hole digging is: don't ignore the first rule.
At this point, I feel the need to point out that Hurwitz is a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. So, when she argues that Holocaust education is all about reminding the world to support the strong against the weak, Goliath against David, the Seleucid Empire against the Maccabees, Washington against Mister Smith, her words carry added weight.
So, responding "WTF Sarah?" is not enough. We need to respond WTF, Sarah‽
Blaming the internet and the education system for the fact that your children have political views that you don't share? Kind of the same vibe as Stephen Miller, right? Singling Mayor-elect Mamdani out for vituperation because he's Muslim? Kind of the same vibe as Donald Trump, right? Condemning the media for graphically exploring your inhumanity? Kind of the same vibe as...pretty much any MAGA official, right?
Maybe there is something to Hurwitz' claim that the left and the right are meeting at the extremes.

Again with the Tiktok! Oy! Have you never heard of Facebook, with its algorithms that reach into users' basal ganglia and rub them the right way? (I don't know why the theme for this article seems to be physical pleasure, but just go with it, OK?) Or TwitterX, which has an official welcome wagon for Nazis (it's stocked with rotgut whisky and scattershot racism)? If I didn't know any better, I would say you went out of your way to refer to an official enemy of the United States and ignore American companies that are...umm...that are...
Why did I think I didn't know any better?
It's hard not to empathize with Hurwitz. I mean, have you ever been on a debate stage with a wall of dead children? They don't offer any data and information and facts and arguments, they just stare at you with their glassy eyes. Accusing. Mocking. Creepy. And then when they start screaming...somehow, it pierces the soul (of those who actually have one). Let's face it: dead children don't argue fair!
And yet...
Hurwitz seems so close to self-awareness, yet so far. She doesn't argue that the Internet is full of video and images of dead Palestinian children - it is. She doesn't argue that Isreal is responsible for the endeadedment of those children - it is. Come on, Sarah...think through the implications...there is an obvious conclusion to come to, here, and you're so close...so close...soooooo very close!
No? Oh, well. Maybe if you sit with these thoughts for a few years, the war crimes trials will help you reach the obvious conclusion.
Defenders of Hurwitz claim her statements have been taken out of context. In what context could talking about a wall of dead children with such indifference be considered acceptable‽ The third level of hell‽ "I was thinking the other day about how important it is to enhance the hellish experience of child molesters. Perhaps a wall of dead children would remind them of the suffering they have caused!"
Naaaah. Sorry, Gorgon the Odious, even that context is not enough. And since when did a minor demon from hell become a "sane normie" anyhow?
